students’ work against a set of criteria�
Instructions
1� Assessments should be completed as per your trainer’s instructions� 
2� Assessments must be submitted by the due date to avoid a late submission penalty� 
3� Plagiarism is copying someone else’s work and submitting it as your own� You must 
write your answers in your own words and include a reference list� You are required to 
run the plagiarism report on your assessments prior to the submission, and ensure that 
the plagiarism score is below 30%� A mark of zero will be given for any assessment or 
part of an assessment that has been plagiarised� 
4� You may discuss your assessments with other students, but submitting identical answers

Case Study
You are the project manager for the development of an interactive dog toy� It is a 
remote control ball, approximately the size of a tennis ball� The ball works on the basis 
of the dog wearing a collar with a sensor attached to it� When the collar gets within 1 
metre of the ball, the ball moves direction� The ball can also be controlled by an app 
on the user’s phone� The ball will run for 2 hours of continuous use before it needs 
charging� 
Funding has just been approved, based on the proof of concept design� It is January 
and you have been given a 12 month timeline to develop the prototype, test it and 
then release the dog toy to the public�
You currently have a team of 8 people, including yourself, that have been working 
on the proof of concept for the toy� They include software and hardware developers 
and engineers and 1 marketing person� You now need to put together the work 
breakdown structure and work out what staffing resources you will need through the 
various stages of the project – hardware design of the ball and sensor, software design 
to interact and control the ball from the sensor as well as the mobile app, testing, 
product packaging, logistics and marketing�
Your current team members are a mix of hardware and software engineers and 
programmers� All answers to this assessment must be based on this case study�

RecruitmentPerformance management: If the outcomes are positive, we will enable them to continue 
working in the same manner. I would utilize performance management tools to assess how 
well each team member is functioning. If the outcomes are poor, coaching and mentoring will be 
used to help the team members.
Coaching: We will utilize tools to track project progress, but if a team member is underperforming, 
we will have coaching sessions every three days. If, after three sessions, the team member 
still doesn't demonstrate improvement, we will start delivering warning warnings.
Recruitment: Recruiting will assist us in assembling the best team possible for this undertaking.

allowing us to create groups and allow team members to tag other team members to

that they all agree on conflict resolution procedures. We will be very specific when we 
request conflict resolution to ensure that all of our team members will reach an
