PRÓLOGO
Desde tiempos atrás, en el Perú se ha venido enseñando el idioma Inglés con métodos 
traídos del extranjero, de prestigiosas universidades y para todos los niveles de educación. 
En el Centro de Idiomas de la Universidad Andina "Néstor Cáceres Velásquez" a iniciativa 
de sus docentes que se plantearon el reto de producir textos para su población estudiantil, 
así nace la idea de contar con el primer texto básico, acorde al medio y la realidad nuestra, 
con contenidos sencillos que favorecen al estudiante en poder aprender y practicar el 
Inglés con mayor facilidad utilizando terminología básica, cotidiana y familiar al entorno 
regional. 
Ahora, con mucho agrado y satisfacción ponemos a disposición el libro de Inglés Básico 
"GET AHEAD" en su primera edición para los estudiantes de todas las Escuelas 
Profesionales de la Universidad Andina, el mismo que será utilizado exclusivamente en su 
Centro de Idiomas de la sede central de Juliaca y las filiales de Puno y Arequipa.
El Centro de Idiomas a la fecha viene desarrollando cursos de Inglés y Portugués para los 
estudiantes de pre-grado y post-grado, el nivel básico se ofrece a los estudiantes 
egresados de pre-grado, el nivel intermedio para los estudiantes de las maestrías y el nivel 
avanzado para los doctorandos.
El texto es el resultado de las experiencias adquiridas por los docentes que laboran en el 
Centro de Idiomas de la universidad en la etapa de enseñanza-aprendizaje del Idioma 
extranjero Inglés, el nivel básico es utilizado para la enseñanza del inglés de los egresados 
de las distintas carreras profesionales que necesitan para la obtención de su grado 
académico de bachiller y otros que logran matricularse en el centro de idiomas con algún 
otro fin.
El contenido está distribuido en cuatro unidades, cada una subdividida en cuatro 
lecciones, las que también tienen ejercicios que reforzarán lo desarrollado y explicado por 
el docente. Cada lección considera habilidades que el estudiante necesita para mejorar su 
idioma Inglés y adicionalmente los contenidos están relacionados con la cultura peruana.

FOREWORD
Since long ago, English has been taught in Peru with methods brought from abroad, 
from prestigious universities and for all levels of education. At the Language Center of 
the Universidad Andina "Néstor Cáceres Velásquez", at the initiative of its teachers who 
set themselves the challenge of producing texts for their student population, the idea of 
having the first basic level text was born, according to the environment and our reality, 
with simple contents that help students to learn and practice English more easily using 
basic terminology, daily and familiar to the regional environment. 
Now, with great pleasure and satisfaction we make available the Basic English book 
"GET AHEAD" in its first edition for the students of all the Professional Schools of the 
Universidad Andina, which will be used exclusively in its Language Center at the 
headquarters in Juliaca and the branches in Puno and Arequipa.
The Language Center is currently developing English and Portuguese courses for 
undergraduate and graduate students, the basic level is offered to undergraduate 
graduates, the intermediate level for master's students and the advanced level for 
doctoral candidates.
The text is the result of the experiences acquired by the teachers who work in the 
Language Center of the university in the teaching-learning stage of the English 
language. The basic level is used to teach English to the graduates of the different 
professional careers who need to obtain their bachelor's degree and others who enroll 
in the language center for some other purpose.
The content is distributed in four units, each one subdivided in four lessons, which also 
have exercises that will reinforce what has been developed and explained by the 
teacher. Each lesson considers skills that the student needs to improve his English 
language and additionally the contents are related to the Peruvian culture.

"GET AHEAD" in its first edition for the students of all the Professional Schools of the 
Universidad Andina, which will be used exclusively in its Language Center at the 
headquarters in Juliaca and the branches in Puno and Arequipa.
The Language Center is currently developing English and Portuguese courses for 
undergraduate and graduate students, the basic level is offered to undergraduate 
graduates, the intermediate level for master's students and the advanced level for 
doctoral candidates.
The text is the result of the experiences acquired by the teachers who work in the

FOREWORD
Since long ago, English has been taught in Peru with methods brought from abroad, 
from prestigious universities and for all levels of education. At the Language Center of 
the Universidad Andina "Néstor Cáceres Velásquez", at the initiative of its teachers who 
set themselves the challenge of producing texts for their student population, the idea of 
having the first basic level text was born, according to the environment and our reality, 
with simple contents that help students to learn and practice English more easily using 
basic terminology, daily and familiar to the regional environment.
