Unidad 4. Presente Simple: tipos de preguntas 
Clase 2 
WH- questions 
Para formular preguntas más específicas en el Presente Simple, se debe comenzar con una palabra 
interrogativa, y luego seguir la estructura de la forma interrogativa explicada en la clase 1 de esta 
misma unidad. Recordemos primero las palabras interrogativas, o como se las denomina en inglés 
“wh-words”: 
What ? ¿Qué/Cuál/ Cuáles? 
What time ? ¿(a) Qué hora? 
When ? ¿Cuándo? 
Where ? ¿Dónde? 
Who ? ¿Quién? 
Why ? ¿Por qué? 
How ? ¿Cómo? 
How old ? ¿Cuántos años? 
How many ? ¿Cuántos? 
How much ? ¿Cuánto? 
How often ? ¿Con qué frecuencia? 
How long ? ¿(por)Cuánto tiempo? 
 
WH- WORD + DO + SUBJECT (I, you, we, they) + BASIC VERB + COMPLEMENT ? 
 
WH- WORD + DOES + SUBJECT (he, she, it) + BASIC VERB + COMPLEMENT ? 
 
Para responder estas preguntas, se debe hacer siguiendo la estructura de una oración afirmativa, 
es decir, se comienza con el sujeto (pronombre, nombre de persona, objeto, etc.), luego el verbo 
 
 
(se debe tener en cuenta que si el sujeto es la 3° persona del singular, se debe agregar “s” o “es” al 
verbo) y se termina con el complemento. 
Ejemplos: 
 
Where do you live? I live in Mendoza city. (¿Dónde vives? Yo vivo en la ciudad de Mendoza.) 
 Subject + verb + complement (affirmative structure) 
 
What time do they start school? They start school at eight o´clock. (¿A qué hora ellos 
comienzan la escuela? Ellos comienzan la escuela a las 8:00) 
When do Sarah and Lisa study English? They study English on Mondays. (¿Cuándo Sara y 
Lisa estudian ingles? Ellas estudian ingles los lunes.) 
 
Where does Brad live? He lives in Brazil. (¿Dónde vive Brad? Brad vive en Brasil) 
 Subject 3RD PERSON SINGULAR + verb “S” /”ES” + complement (affirmative structure) 
 
What time does Jack have breakfast? He has breakfast at ten thirty. (¿A qué hora Jack 
desatuna? Él desayuna a las 10.30.) 
How often does Victor play football? He plays football every Friday. (¿Con qué frecuencia 
Victor juega al futbol? Él juega al fútbol todos los viernes.)
