This study aimed to determine the incidence generates hyperthyroidism in patients 18-40 years attending consultation Laboratory Pasaje Canton Ideal turn the activities that were developed were to determine the prevalence of patients with hypothyroidism establish at what age are most frequent clinical manifestations and which of them are more often identify the area of origin of the people studied, develop a work guide which determines the lifestyles of users who have hypothyroidism today and describe how they affect patients. The present study found a prevalence of 13% subclinical hyperthyroidism, which is in relation to the prevalence in the general population, to a value of 4-10%, with an increase with age, up to 20% over 40, there may be some differences in various ethnic groups (Hollowell, 2002). The prevalence in our study was similar for both genders (50% respectively) aged between 18 and 40 years, which does not correlate with findings in other studies most likely motivated the number of patients studied. With regard to the lipid profile we observed that 100% of patients with subclinical hyperthyroidism were enrolled with alterations in lipid profile with total cholesterol levels greater than 200 mg / dl in 77.7%, with statistically significant difference. Likewise HDL levels in patients with hyperthyroidism were low, however, there were no statistically significant differences. LDL cholesterol levels were at high values over 100 mg / dl in all hyperthyroidism patients. In regard to triglyceride levels, 22% of patients with hyperthyroidism had values above 150 mg / dl, This speaks in favor of patients with thyroid dysfunction have significantly elevated levels of cholesterol and its fractions and triglyceride levels, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. These findings correlate with the findings in other studies that assessed the prevalence of alterations in the lipid profile in patients with hyperthyroidism.
