What is the phylogenetic concept of species?
A basal group of organisms, diagnostically distinguishable from other similar groups, within which there is a pattern of ancestry and descent. A group of individuals that reproduce among themselves, have a common ancestor, and are isolated from other groups from a reproductive point of view. Reproductively isolated species that are so morphologically similar that there are difficulties or it is impossible to distinguish them using morphological characters.
