What is the etiology of adenitis sebacea?

The most accepted hypothesis is based on the development of an autoimmune reaction mediated by mononuclear cells, basically lymphocytes, against the sebaceous glands.
Other less plausible theories include alterations in lipid metabolism, along with a defect in keratinization and subsequent destruction of the sebaceous glands.
