A University of Los Lagos updated its curriculum for education careers between 2000 and 2003. The update was motivated by the Fortalecimiento en la Formación Inicial Docente (FFID) projects of the Ministry of Education. The diagnosis of the time showed a socially undervalued teaching career, low-paid teachers, and a lack of interest from the best-performing students in pedagogical careers. The State intentionally neglected its public universities and, therefore, the FID, resulting in unregulated training with a high prevalence of private education. The resources were provided to each university to design strategies to strengthen the FID considering the reform and future demands.
