The past simple is used to talk about a specific action that started and ended in the past. In this case it is equivalent to the Spanish indefinite past tense. Generally, we use it with time adverbs like "last year", "yesterday", "last night The past simple is used for a series of actions in the past. We also use it for repeated or habitual actions in the past, as the Spanish past imperfect is used. RULES Verbs ending in -e add -d Example: Arrive ---> Arrived. Verbs that end in a consonant + and add y ---> ied. Example: study ---> Studied. Verbs that end in a vowel plus consonant add x2 + ed. Example: Stop ----> Stopped To form negative sentences in the past tense, "did" is used. "Did" is the past tense of the auxiliary verb Do. Example in regular verbs: I din¨t play Irregular verb example: I dint go. The past simple in interrogative form has the same structure for regular and irregular verbs because we use did + infinitive. Examples: Did I fail this exam? Why did you wait so long?
