Present Continuous
Present Continuous: Affirmative Form
(Present Continuous: Forma Afirmativa)
To talk about something that is happening at the moment of speaking, use the verb “to be”
and the verb + “ing”.
(Para hablar sobre algo que está pasando mientras hablamos, usá el verbo “ser o estar” y el
otro verbo + “ing”).
● Now I am cooking. (Ahora estoy cocinando.)
● She is studying. (Ella está estudiando.)
● He is reading. (Él está leyendo.)
● We are watching TV now. (Nosotros estamos viendo TV ahora.)
● They are working. (Ellos están trabajando.)
Remember that you use “am”, “is” or “are” depending on the person.
(Recordá que usás “am”, “is” o “are” dependiendo de la persona).

1. One-syllable verbs ending in a vowel and a consonant like, run double the final
consonant, like running.
(Los verbos de una sola sílaba que terminan en vocal y consonante duplican la
consonante, como “running”).
2. Verbs ending in consonant + “e”, like “have”, lose the “e” and add -ing: having.
(Los verbos terminados en consonante más “e”, como “have”, pierden la “e” y
agregan -ing: having).
Present Continuous: Negative Form
(Present Continuous: Forma Negativa)
To talk about something that is not happening at the moment of speaking, we use the verb
“to be” + not, and the verb + “ing”.
(Para hablar sobre algo que no está pasando mientras hablamos, usamos el verbo “ser o
estar” + “not”,y el otro verbo + “ing”).
● I’m not walking.
● She isn’t running.
● He isn’t having a picnic.
● We aren’t riding a bike.
● They aren’t playing football.
Present Continuous: Yes/no questions
(Present Continuous: Preguntas cuya respuesta es “sí” o “no”)
To make these questions, you use the verb “to be”, followed by the subject, and then the
verb + “-ing”.
(Para hacer estas preguntas, usás el verbo “ser” o “estar”, seguido del sujeto, y después el
verbo + “-ing”).
● Are you crying?
Yes, I am.
● Is he driving his car?
No, he isn’t.
● Are they talking?
Yes, they are.
Present Continuous: Wh- questions
(Present Continuous: Preguntas con palabras interrogativas)
To make wh- questions, we add the “wh-” at the beginning.
(Para hacer preguntas con palabras interrogativas, agregamos la palabra interrogativa al
principio).
You use “what” to ask about situations.
(Usás “qué” para preguntar sobre situaciones).
● What are they doing?
They’re talking.
You use “why” to ask about reasons.
(Usás “por qué” para preguntar sobre razones).
● Why are you crying?
Because he isn’t answering his phone.
You use “where” to ask about places.
(Usás “dónde” para preguntar sobre lugares).
● Where is Tommy working?
He’s working at a restaurant.
