HOW TO USE
THE CANVA
APP
On the homepage, use the search bar to
look for the design type or size that
you want to create.
Click on it from the results.
Scroll through the available templates.
To preview one, hover your mouse over it
and click the ▪▪▪ that appears. Select
Preview this template.
To use the template, select Customize
this template. You’ll then be taken to
the editor.

On the homepage banner, click the
Custom size button.
To select your design dimensions unit,
click the dropdown menu.
Enter the width and height for your
design. They should be at least 40px
and not more than 8000px.
To start designing, click Create new
design. This will open the editor.

 Photos tab. If it’s not there, click 
 ▪▪▪ More first.
To look for specific images, type
keywords on the search bar, or click
on the filter suggestions below it.
To add an image to your design, click
on it.

On the editor side panel, select the 
 ☁ Uploads tab.
Click Upload media.
Select the files that you want to
upload. You can also drag them from
your computer folder to the ☁ Uploads
tab.
To use your upload in your design,
click on it from the side panel.

Click the element you want to flip.
On the toolbar above the editor, click
on Flip.
Click on ➥ Flip horizontal to flip it
sideways, or Flip vertical to flip it
upside down.

Click the element, text box, image, or
video you want to rotate.
To select multiple elements, hold Shift on
your keyboard, and click to add other
elements to the selection.
Outside the border of your selected element
or group, there’ll be a ⟳ rotate handle.

Click the element, text box, image, or
video you want to resize.
To select multiple elements, hold Shift on
your keyboard, and click to add other
elements to the selection.
Click any of the resize handles on the
corners of the selected element/s, and drag
it in or out to resize.

Click the element, image, or video that you want
to crop.
On the toolbar above the editor, click on Crop.
You can also double-click on an element to bring
up the crop handles.
Click and drag any crop handle (see screenshot
below) to adjust what part of the element you
want to be visible. You can also resize the
element within the crop space.
Click ✔ Done on the toolbar, or click outside of
the element to finish.

On the editor side panel, click on the 
 Text tab.
Click on the option to add a heading,
subheading, or body text. You can also
choose from our font combinations.

Shortcut: Press T on your keyboard to insert
a text box to your design.

Double-click the text box that you want to
edit.
Delete or edit its contents. Use the text
edit options on the editor toolbar to
format your text.
Click outside the text box to finish.

Click to select the text box that you
want to duplicate.
On the floating toolbar that appears
above or below it, click on Duplicate.

Shortcuts: After clicking on the text box,
press Cmd + C (Mac) or Ctrl + C (Windows) on
your keyboard to copy. Press Cmd + V (Mac)
or Ctrl + V (Windows) to paste.

Click on the current font
size and enter the new size.
You can also click on + plus
or - minus to reduce or
increase the size.

from the toolbar.

Text emphasis
Click Bold, Italics, or
Underline to add emphasis to
text. If these icons are grayed
out, it means that the current
font used doesn’t support adding
emphasis.

Text color
Click Text Color and select
a new color from the color
panel.

Click Bullet list to put your
text into a bullet list.
To put your text in a numbered
list, click on the Bullet list
icon again to change the
bullets to numbers.

Text alignment
Click on Center, Left, 
 Right, or Justify
repeatedly until your
preferred alignment is
applied.
Press R on your keyboard to instantly add a
rectangle to your design.
Resize the rectangle by dragging the resize
handles from its corners to fit the text box.
Change the color of the rectangle by clicking on
the Color tile from the toolbar above the editor.
Select a new color from the color panel.
If the rectangle is covering the text box, click
Position from the toolbar. Click on Backward until
the rectangle doesn’t cover the text anymore.

Click on the text you’d like to edit. Text formatting
options will appear on the editor toolbar.
Click Effects. Options will appear on the editor side
panel.
Click on the effect you want.
Adjust the effect intensity and settings to your
liking.

To remove the applied effect, select None from the
options.

In the side panel of the editor, click the Audio tab.
If you cannot see it, click More first.
Scroll to see all categories or use the search bar.
Click View All next to each category to see all
available options.
Click on a track to add it to your design. If you use
a video template, the track will appear where the
playback mark (timestamp) is on the timeline, located
at the bottom of the editor.

In the timeline, click on the track you
added to edit it.
In the toolbar above the editor, click the
volume icon.
Use the slider or the text box to adjust
the volume.

In the side panel of the editor, select the
Uploaded tab.
Click on uploaded files.
Choose the files you want to upload. You can
also drag them from the folder on your
computer to the Uploaded tab.
To use your uploaded file in the design,
click on the file you want from the side
panel.

In the side panel of the editor, click Background. If you don't
see that option, first click on --- (More).Click on a color box below the search bar to apply it to your
design.
To choose a new color, click the palette icon, then add a new
color box.

Type "gradient" in the search bar, and press Enter or Return.
Click on any of the results to apply it to your design.
To edit the gradient color, click on the background color box in
the top toolbar.

In the side panel of the editor, click Background. If you don't
see that option, first click on --- (More).
Click on an image in the tab to use it as a background. Use the
search bar to find more specific images.
To use a stock photo or an uploaded image, and add it to the
design, right-click and select Set Image as Background or Replace
Background.

Add the video you want to your design. You can add one from the
Videos tab or from Uploaded Files.
Right-click on the video.
Select Set video as background or Replace background.

HOW TO EXPORT A CANVA
PRESENTATION TO AN USB OR A SLIDE
TO MAKE IT PORTABLE
On the canva editor, click the 3 dots on the top right corner.
Then, select the see all option to reveal different
sharing/downloading options.You'll be prompted to link you
Google account to Canva if you haven't linked already.
Choose the Google Drive folder where you want to save your
presentation file.
Double-click on your presentation file and it'll automatically
open on Google Slides. To make editions and save the
presentation on Slides, go to the file menu, then select Save
as Google Slides.
