En el sistema nervioso central se las postula como generadoras de gliomas. 37 Con estas características han sido descriptas en glio- blastomas, 38 ependimomas39 y meduloblastomas. 40 La biología característica de estas células, en esencia su capacidad proliferativa y migratoria, quizá pueda ser utilizada como vector de factores que promuevan la regresión tumoral. 41 Conclusión En síntesis, la compleja biología de los tumores cere- brales aglutina alguna de las encrucijadas más apa- sionantes de la biomedicina contemporánea. Estamos viviendo un auténtico cambio de paradigma, donde la incorporación masiva de los datos genómicos, sumados a los proteómicos y metabolómicos supera el mero hecho de mejorar el diagnóstico para, como ocurre con las auténticas revoluciones conceptuales, cambiar los criterios esenciales sobre la génesis y la biología tumoral. Todavía nos está del todo claro cómo estos hallazgos definirán las terapéuticas neurooncológicas. En este sentido no debemos olvidar que el impacto concreto sobre la clínica de los pacientes es una asig- natura pendiente, sobre todo en los gliomas de alto grado, cuya desalentadora tasa de sobrevida no ha cambiado en los últimos 20 años. 42 Quizá sea éste el desafío mayor para los años venideros.
