Making Fruit Salad 
 
You need: 
Adult helper 
Plastic knife or kid safe knife 
Various fruit 
Bowl 
Directions: With supervision, have your child: 
Wash fruit with cold water and dry 
Peel fruit if needed 
Cut fruit into small pieces 
Place fruit in bowl 
Stir fruit 
Eat  
 
This activity can start at the grocery store, letting your child choose fruits to buy. 
You can choose fruits in all different colors to make a rainbow fruit salad. You can 
give choices (eg. Do you want strawberries or bananas?) Talk about the colors of 
the fruits, which ones have seeds, which ones need to be peeled, big and small 
fruits…) You can have them count the pieces of fruit. Use words like “first” and 
“next”. Talk about the actions as they do them (eg. Washing, cutting, peeling…). 
Most of all, HAVE FUN!
