What is the evolution of the intaglio printing system?
One of the derivations of artistic engraving is commercial intaglio printing, usually done with rotary machines (rotogravure). The modern intaglio printing can be attributed to Karel Klíc, a Czech inventor and artist who developed photogravure techniques based on the use of gelatin masks that hardened under light and protected the metal plates from acid action. The development of halftone techniques and the mechanization of presses allowed the birth of rotary intaglio printing in England in the late 19th century.
