What are the main diagnostic criteria for atherosclerosis in the lower limbs?
The direct measurement of stenosis is often difficult in the arteries of the lower limbs. The severity of the stenosis must be estimated from changes in the maximum systolic velocity produced by the stenosis. The presence of disease above or below the measurement point can affect the shape of the recorded waves. The presence of disease above the measurement point results in the loss of the third and then the second component of the wave. The Doppler color allows for a rapid differentiation of normal and abnormal segments of the vessel.
