What are the diagnostic methods for hematuria in dogs and cats?
Radiology and abdominal ultrasound are commonly indicated in patients who have suffered recent trauma or in those in whom the physical examination reveals masses or other abnormalities associated with the kidneys, bladder, uterus or prostate. Urianalysis should be performed immediately after obtaining urine, and in case of not being able to perform it immediately, the sample should be refrigerated to avoid deterioration. The laparotomy is indicated in cases where all less invasive diagnostic methods have not provided information on the origin of hematuria.
