What are the different diagnostic tests for detecting proteinuria in animals?
The presence of proteins in urine can be evaluated through different diagnostic methods, such as colorimetric strips, sulfosalicylic acid test, microalbuminuria detection, urine albumin-creatinine ratio (UAC), urine protein-creatinine ratio (UPC) calculation, and measurement of protein excretion in 24 hours. Colorimetric strips are the most commonly used method for detecting proteinuria, mainly due to their low cost and ease of use. The microalbuminuria test is a semi-quantitative test that classifies results into several degrees of severity. The UPC calculation is the method of choice for evaluating proteinuria in the clinical setting.
