Research and analysis performed by multiple historians and archeologists have revealed Maya Culture's great trajectory, lasting more than 2,500 years, of which are divided into three periods: pre-classic, classic and postclassic.
They assembled themselves in small groups preceding Guatemala's coast and gained experience from other Mesoamerican cultures, such as the Olmeca one. They then started cultivating corn, beans, and chilies.
Things were already settled during the classic period: their religion was complex and the scientific and artistic knowledge was booming fruitfully. They laid the foundations of arithmetics, created two calendars (one based on rituals and the other on the sun), and their most important creation: their own writing system. Everything seems to be doing great, right? However, later on, a crisis called ''the Mayan collapse'' happened and made this civilization sink. The collapse remained unknown.
Since then, they just went with the flow and followed foreign civilizations that started traveling their territories.
Fortunately, Mayan civilization left behind numerous archaeological sites that have survived until today. Some examples are:

Ah Puch.
«When the owl sings, the Indian dies» This is an old saying in allusion to Ah Puch, the God of death and the underworld from Mayan culture.
He was represented as a rotten human with a black skull head.
In the pictures attached I'm wearing a traditional Mayan costume called 'Hiupil' which consists of a blouse and a colorful long skirt made of lightweight cotton.
And to represent Ah Puch, I held a black skull head and placed it near my face as if I'm him.
We tried to represent Mayan make up the best we could, so we used red paint to symbolize the scarification, which consisted of cutting parts of the skin. Yeah, this was their meaning of beauty back then, it was pretty common in the prehispanic period. I also did my hair in a knot and wrapped it around a turban, which is the rainbow-colored scarf-like cloth in my head. And finally, we added jewelry, fake jewelry of course, but Mayas used to wear them made of clay, bones and jade.
