Michel Foucault was a French philosopher born in Poitiers in 1926. He is the maximum representative of French structuralism. Foucault's studies questioned the influence of German political philosopher Karl Marx and Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. Foucault explored changing models of power within society and how power relates to the individual. Some of Foucault's works are Madness and Civilization (1960), The Order of Things (1966), and Discipline and Punish (1975). Foucault died in 1984 at the age of 58.
