What are the forms of infection caused by Escherichia coli?
Onfalitis (infection of the navel)
Hydrosalpinx
Enterocolitis
Salpingitis (inflammation of the oviduct)
Celulitis (inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue that also affects the adjacent skin)
Ooforitis (inflammation of the ovary)
E. coli infections are widely distributed among chickens of all ages and categories.
The most common E. coli serotypes identified are: 01:K1 (L), 02:K1 (L) and 078:K80 (B).
The delay in the absorption of the yolk sac is a prerequisite for E. coli infections and peritonitis.
Salpingitis due to E. coli infections can be observed in growing birds.
Enterocolitis caused by E. coli produces toxins and causes the secretion and retention of fluids in some intestinal portions, especially in the cecum.
In some cases in adult birds, subcutaneous masses of thin serofibrinous exudate resulting from a local E. coli infection can be detected in the head region.
