What were the main ideas of Alberdi and Sarmiento regarding the future of Latin American countries?
Alberdi and Sarmiento were supporters of a modernization process by copying European and North American systems. Alberdi believed that immigrants should be white, preferably Anglo-Saxon, and not Spanish, Italian or Slavic. Sarmiento believed that the people of the countryside, the poor gauchos, were barbarians, in contrast to the urban civilization that nourished its progress and culture with novelties from Europe.
