En forma altruista, el Ballet Folklórico de la
UJAT, presentó su memorable actuación en las
ceremonias de inauguración (miércoles) y de
clausura (viernes), para que nuestros participantes
del IX Minisimposio tuvieran la oportunidad de
disfrutar de estas actividades culturales. También
se degustaron unos ricos antojitos típicos y frutas
tropicales de la región, acompañado de un suave
vino de mesa, con el patrocinio de la propia

The altruistic support of the Folk Ballet of UJAT,
presented their memorable dances after both, the
Opening (Wednesday) and the Closing (Friday)
Ceremonies, for our Ninth Minisymposium
participants to have the opportunity to enjoy these
cultural activities is also acknowledged. Our
participants also enjoyed delicious typical
delicatessen and tropical fruits of the region,
accompanied of a soft table wine with the
sponsorship of UJAT
Finalmente, para la noche del jueves tuvimos la
oportunidad de invitar a nuestros académicos que
impartieron el Curso Internacional Pre-
Minisimposio y a nuestros conferencistas
extranjeros y foráneos a cenar delicias del Golfo
de México y las zonas de agua dulce de Tabasco.
Finally, for Thursdy night we had the opportunity
of inviting our academic guests that delivered the
Pre-Minisymposium International Course and our
foreign and out of town speakers to dine the
delicious fish and seafood from the Gulf of
mexico and the inner lakes of Tabasco.

PRESENTACIÓN / PRESENTATION
Ésta es la novena ocasión que los
investigadores mexicanos que, desde 1989,
formaban parte del Programa de Ingeniería
Química Ambiental y de Química Ambiental
de la Facultad de Química de la UNAM, en
México, PIQAyQA, cancelado en 2007, y que
ahora se encuentran en los Laboratorios de
Ingeniería Química Ambiental y de Química
Ambiental de la Facultad de Química de la
UNAM y en muchas entidades nacionales e
internacionales, llevan a cabo este
Minisimposio
This is the ninth time that Mexican
researchers, who since 1989, have belonged
to the former Program for Environmental
Chemical Engineering and Chemistry of the
UNAM Faculty (School) of Chemistry, in
Mexico, PECEC, cancelled in 2007, and that
now are located in the Laboratories for
Environmental Chemical Engineering and
Chemistry of the UNAM Faculty (School) of
Chemistry, as well as in many national and
international entities, have organized this
Minisymposium
En esta ocasión es muy honroso para nosotros
haber salido de la Ciudad Universitaria de la
UNAM para llegar por segunda vez a la bella
ciudad de Villahermosa, Tabasco, México,
que justamente está cumpliendo 455 años de
haber sido fundada por los conquistadores que
se tropezaron con un nuevo continente que
desconocían, donde nuestros anfitriones, la
División Académica de Ciencias Biológicas
de la Universidad Juárez Autónoma de
Tabasco, nos reciben con los brazos abiertos
para cumplir con el objetivo de estos
Minisimposia, que es el de intercambiar ideas
y avances de la química ambiental y de las
aplicaciones de la ingeniería química
ambiental en todos los ámbitos donde se tiene
impacto de los contaminantes generados por
el hombre en la biosfera (aire, agua, suelo y
seres vivos)
In this occasion we had the honor of leaving
the UNAM University City to be at the
beautiful city of Villahermosa, Tabasco,
Mexico, for the second time, precisely this
year is celebrating the 455 anniversary of its
foundation by the conquerors that trumped
on a new continent that was completely
unknown for them, where our hosts, the
Academic Division of Biological Sciences of
the Juárez Autonomous University of
Tabasco, welcome us with open arms to

En la tercera versión del Minisimposio, del 7
al 10 de julio de 2004, se tomó la decisión de
tener cuatro mesas como se hacía en los
Seminarios que ha organizado el personal del
PIQAyQA antes de su creación oficial (desde
1985), una dirigida a los avances recientes de
la química atmosférica en las megaciudades,
especialmente, la de México en el marco del
Programa MILAGRO de los Dres. Luisa y
Mario Molina; la segunda relacionada al
estudio de la química del agua y sus
aplicaciones para conservar este valioso
recurso a través de su tratamiento; la tercera,
dirigida hacia el estudio de la contaminación
de los suelos, principalmente por derivados de
la industria química y petrolera con énfasis en
los sistemas de remediación y la cuarta,
dedicada a la estabilización de sustancias y
residuos peligrosos, con énfasis en el
reaprovechamiento de los materiales valiosos
presentes en ellos. Aunque ahora fue de dos
días completos además de la noche previa
para realizar la inauguración y el día posterior
para tener una parte cultural, se siguió
llamando Minisimposio.
In the third version, carried out on July 7 to
10, 2004, the scheme of four Round Tables
taken from the Seminars organized by
PECEC personnel even before the official
creation (since 1985), was retaken. One was
directed towards the recent advances on
atmospheric chemistry in megacities, such as
Mexico City within the frame of the
MILAGRO Program from Drs. Luisa and
Mario Molina; the second one was related to
water chemistry and its applications to
preserve this valuable resource through its
treatment, and further reuse; the third one
deals with the study of soil pollution, mainly
by compounds derived from the chemical
and petroleum industries, emphasizing the
use of remediation systems; and the fourth
one was dedicated to the stabilization of
hazardous substances and residues, with
emphasis on the recycling of valuable
materials present in them. Even though that
now it required two full days besides the
previous evening opening ceremony and the
next day to include a cultural journey, it has
been still named Minisymposium.

The eighth time that Mexican researchers,
who since 1989 till 2007, have belonged to
the former Program for Environmental
Chemical Engineering and Chemistry of the
UNAM Faculty (School) of Chemistry, in
Mexico, PECEC, carried out this

Contexto: La gestión actual en México de sitios
contaminados con hidrocarburos en el ambiente rural
ha mostrado ser deficiente en reestablecer las
condiciones para que pueden ser usados plenamente
para uso agropecuario. El cumplimiento de los límites
máximos permisibles (LMP) de la NOM-138-
SEMARNAT/SSA1-2012 no asegura la fertilidad del
suelo. Se ha demostrado numerosas veces que, en
muchos sitios, aunque cumplen las especificaciones
de la norma con respecto a las concentraciones
permisibles de hidrocarburos en suelo, estos sufren
problemas de capacidad de retención de humedad o
repelencia del suelo al agua, compactación, etc.,
reduciendo marcadamente su productividad
agrícola/agropecuaria.
Context: In Mexico, management of
contaminated sites with hydrocarbons in the
rural environment has been deficient in
restoring conditions for its further use in
agriculture. The compliance with the maximum
permisible limits (LMP) of the Mexican Official
Act NOM-138-SEMARNAT/SSA1-2012 does not
ensure soil fertility. It has been demonstrated
in numerous sites that, although the act
specificationswith respect to the permissible
hydrocarbon concentrations in the soil are
complied, there are problems with water-
repellent, or hydrophobic, soils, compaction,
etc., considerably reducing its agricultural
productivity.

adquiridos durante los últimos 20 años para proponer
opciones realmente efectivas y de menor costo
enfocadas a recuperar la fertilidad del suelo
comparados con los métodos de evaluación y
procedimientos de remediación empleados
actualmente.
The academic staff will share their knowledge
acquired for the last 20 years to propose
effective and cost-friendly options focused to
increase soil fertility compared with the
presently used evaluation methods and
remediation procedures.
Dinámica del curso: Durante tres días el curso se
dividirá en una parte teórica y una experimental. Se
harán demostraciones sobre las determinaciones de
diferentes hidrocarburos en muestras de suelo,
repelencia al agua de muestras de suelos y un
bioensayo para evaluar toxicidad.
Dynamics of the course: During three days the
course will be divided into a theoretical part
and an experimental one. Demonstrations on
the determinations of different hydrocarbons in
soil samples, water-repellence of soils, and a
bioessay to evaluate toxicity will be carried out.
Las sesiones teóricas serán impartidas en la División
Académica de Ciencias Biológicas, DADCBiol, en la
sala de usos múltiples. La parte experimental se
realizará en el Laboratorio de Remediación. Es
importante usar bata para acceder al laboratorio.
