TOOLS & MATERIALS:

! Crochet hook size: US B/1 (2.25mm)
! Yarn - I used Hobbii Rainbow Organic Cotton 50g / 170m

You will need approx 25g for the main body colour and 15
to 25g for the shirt or dress and bow.
! 7mm black round toy safety eyes (optional)
! Black embroidery yarn
! Fiberfill
! Stitch marker
! Tapestry needle for sewing
! Noise maker for rattle (optional)
! Heavy cardboard or felt floor protector for skittle base – I
like to also use it in my rattle as it gives a lovely ergonomic
shape…designed by my little one!
! Sharp scissors
SKILL LEVEL:
Advanced Beginner / Intermediate
GAUGE: 5 rounds = 3.7cm (1.5”) across. Note: crochet the first
5 rounds of the head to check gauge.
FINISHED SIZE: The finished bunny is approximately 12.5cm
from the top of the head to the base (not the tip of the ears).

GENERAL ADVICE:
! Read the entire pattern before you start.
! Amigurumi is worked in continuous spirals, without closing off the rounds with a slip stitch.
! Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round. This helps when counting your stitches to compare it with the
pattern.
! Stuff firmly unless instructed otherwise. Insert small amounts at a time until you get the right look. Stuffing your toy can be
tricky, but it is a very important step in getting the right shape and look for your toy: overstuffing might stretch the crocheted
piece too far and show gaps and under stuffing will give your piece a deflated look. Take your time with this step.
! To help you when sewing pieces together, first pin them into place and check that you are happy with the positioning.

SAFETY NOTE:
Make sure each piece of the toy is firmly and securely sewn together so that it cannot pull apart. Check toy regularly for loose parts
and wear and tear. If you intend to sell your finished item, as the maker of these items, you are responsible for marketing a safe toy.
Please make sure they comply with the legal requirements of the respective country in which the toy is going to be sold.

Using the yarn tail, sew each ear to the top of the head centered over rounds 5 & 8 of the head (photo 1). If embroidering eyes, using a
black embroidery yarn, embroider on the eyes between rounds 17 & 18 with 11 stitches between. Sew on a little nose, eyebrows and
pink cheeks as you wish (photo 2). If you wish to crochet little round cheeks follow the instructions below. Secure your threads at the
center base of the head (within the bounds of round 25, the BLO round) the body construction will conceal this area (photo 3).

If you are making a boy bunny, break the yarn and weave in the end. Your upper body section is now finished - photo 5. You will now
move on to making the base and lower body. If you are making a girl bunny, continue with Rnd 11 without breaking the yarn – this round
will form the skirt. Note: If you would like to embroider a design on the top of your bunny, do that before moving on to the lower body.

Rnd 11: sl-st into next st, ch 2 (counts as first dc) dc 2 into base of ch 2. Continue around making 3 dc into each stitch around.
Join round with sl-st into top of beg ch 2 (156 sts)

Break the yarn and weave in end. Your upper body section is now finished - photo 6. You will now move on to making the base and

Rnd 3: ch1 (counts as first sc), [sc inc in next st, sc in next st] x11, sc inc in last st. Join round with a sl-st into top of beg ch 1
 (36 sts)

Rnd 4: sc BLO in all 36 st (36 sts)
Rnd 5: [sc in next 7 st, dec] x4 (32 sts)
Rnd 6: [sc in next st, sc inc in next st] x16 (48 sts)
Rnd 7: [sc inc in next st, sc in next 11 st] x4 (52 sts)
Rnd 8-10: sc in all 52 st (52 sts) (3 Rnds)
Leaving a long yarn tail for sewing the lower body to the upper body, break the yarn and pull through. You now need to place a sturdy
base into the bottom – you could use thick card – or I like to use these round adhesive felt pads by surface guard (photo 8) that I picked
up from my local hardware store – a 38mm diameter circle makes the perfect sized base. Using these felt bases (as opposed to
cardboard) mean that the finished toy can be washed.
Next, as shown in photo 9, sew the lower body together with the upper body by passing yarn (long tail from the lower body) through the
last row (row 10) of the lower body and the exposed back loop from round 10 of the upper body. Pause sewing about two-thirds of the
way around to fill the body section with fiberfill. Making sure your stitches are nice and secure, continue sewing the gap closed. When
you are finished, weave in the yarn end.
Your toy should now be able to stand with ease on it’s flat, sturdy base. It is not essential to put a base into the rattle version of this toy,
however I do find that it gives such a beautiful shape to the toy and makes it very comfortable for little hands to hold (this has been
designed, tested and approved by my little one!!)…and best of all, when your little one outgrows the rattle, the toy can convert to a skittle
without any modifications – add a few more little friends, crochet up the ball pattern (included with this pattern) and you will have a cute
little set of skittles.
