What is the recommended treatment for primary glaucoma with IOP greater than 25 mm Hg?
The recommended treatment is the administration of osmotic diuretics such as mannitol 20% (1-2 g/kg IV in 20 minutes) and topical prostaglandins such as latanoprost. The use of topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as dorzolamide is also recommended. After the administration of emergency treatment, the patient should be referred to a specialist for further evaluation and treatment. The use of systemic anti-inflammatory drugs is recommended in all cases of primary glaucoma.
