Los dos tipos de anormalidades pueden aparecer en quistes clínicamente identifi - cables. Los vestigios del conducto de Müller también se identifi can en su curso embriológico. El más común es una pequeña estructura quística ciega unida a un pedículo al extremo distal de la trompa de Falopio, llamada hidátide de Morgagni (fi g. 9-24, pág. 272) (Zheng, 2009). Los quistes paratubarios suelen identifi carse de manera fortuita durante operaciones ginecológicas en busca de otras anormalidades o se detectan en la exploración ecográfi ca; pueden tener origen mesonéfrico, mesotelial o paramesonéfrico. Muchos de ellos no genera síntomas, crecen con lentitud y se identifi can durante el tercer o el cuarto decenios de la vida. La exposición de un feto a DES se ha vinculado con diversas anormalidades tubarias. Las trompas cortas y tortuosas o las que tienen franjas arrugadas y orifi cios pequeños han sido vinculadas con infecundidad (DeCherney, 1981). ANOMALÍAS OVÁRICAS El ovario supernumerario es una glándula ectópica sin conexión con los ligamentos anchos uteroovárico o infundibulopélvico (Wharton, 1959); dicha anomalía ginecológica rara puede locali- zarse en la pelvis, el retroperitoneo, el área paraaórtica, el mesen- terio del colon o el epiplón. Una teoría (Printz, 1973) describe la migración aberrante de parte del pliegue gonadal después de incorporación de las células germinativas. A diferencia de ello, el término ovario accesorio describe el exceso de tejido ovárico en un punto cercano y unido a un ovario de situación normal. Wharton (1959) estimó que eran raros el ova- rio accesorio y el supernumerario. Aún más, tres de cuatro mujeres con ovario supernumerario y 5 de 19 que tenían un ovario acce- sorio mostraron defectos congénitos adicionales, muy a menudo anomalías del aparato genitourinario. La ausencia de un ovario, con su trompa o sin ella, puede ser consecuencia de agenesia congénita, o de torsión del ovario con necrosis y resorción (Eustace, 1992; James, 1970).
