Indications and drugs for sedation and general anesthesia in horses.

Sedation is necessary before administering general anesthesia as well as in many procedures performed on horses in station, such as radiographs, regional pertusions or certain surgeries.
General anesthesia may be necessary in various situations, such as castration, lacerations, biopsies or certain local treatments, such as regional perfusion with antibiotics, especially in aggressive horses.
There are two methods or techniques for administering general anesthesia in the field: intravenous anesthesia and inhalation anesthesia.
The drugs used for sedation produce sedation, analgesia, muscle relaxation and reduce the requirements of other anesthetic agents.
