What are the considerations for anesthesia in patients with liver or kidney disease?
The mode of elimination of the anesthetic should be considered in cases of severe liver or kidney failure. Inhalation anesthetics are often preferred in cases of severe liver or kidney failure. Encouraging defecation and urination immediately before induction is desirable in patients with severe liver or kidney failure. The administration of inotropes, antiarrhythmics, and appropriate diuretics should be attempted before anesthesia in patients with decompensated heart disease.
