What is the purpose of the lavado broncoalveolar (LBA)?
The LBA is performed to obtain cytological samples in cases of disseminated lung disease. It is more reliable than transtracheal lavage in providing complete information about lower respiratory tract pathological processes. It is used to differentiate an inflammatory disease that is not infectious or cases where the horse's performance is reduced, especially if it is a racehorse.
